The 3rd phase of Kansas' Wide Zone attack, using the pass as the 3rd option.
In the first two installments of our deep dive into Kansas’ Wide Zone offense, we explored their foundation, and how they use the scheme to attack out of Pistol and Spread formations.

Building on these concepts, this third installment will explore how Kansas integrates Run Pass Options (RPOs) into its wide zone scheme. We'll break down two primary types of RPOs Kansas employs: the triple option with a screen throw and second-level RPOs that read the backside linebacker.
Wide Zone Triple with Passes
Kansas builds off its traditional triple option by incorporating a pass option into the mix. In this variation, the quarterback still begins by reading the defensive end, just as in the wide zone triple option. However, instead of pitching the ball to a trailing back, the quarterback has the option to throw a screen or quick game to a receiver.
